Did you know if you cut a hole in the bottom of 48 gallon trash can and cover the top with a shower curtain you can create a giant air cannon? A leaf blower and some PVC pipe will create a rapid-fire ping-pong ball bazooka? You’ll find both of these in the Youth Room of the Windermere Union Church. The air cannon was used to talk about the Holy Spirit and the bazooka was used to discuss the presence of God when we face our deepest fears.
The group firing ping-pong balls in the sanctuary is also the same group that sends out hundreds of Valentines Day cards to our members who might not get them anymore. This same group makes homemade Christmas cards for shut-ins.
The Windermere Union Youth Group is not a “group”. It is an experience. Comprised of students in Junior High through College (most of the college students began in Junior High and just never left.)
Junior Highers (6th-8th grade) meet on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm.
The High School and College students meet together on Wednesday for a light supper and discussion.
On Sunday mornings the youth room doors are open to anyone who would like to come in for a donut and conversation.
Each Summer the youth group ventures out into the world for a Mission Trip. In the past this group has painted playgrounds in Tennessee, planted a garden at homeless shelter in Ohio, and helped restore the oyster reef in the keys.
The youth group plays a vital role in the life of the church. Helping out in worship for Advent and leading a deeply moving service for Good Friday.
